The explosion occurred in an alley near North Anaheim Boulevard and West Wilhelmina Street just before 2 p.m., police and local residents said.

No injuries were reported.

“The potential was very strong that someone could have been injured had they been here,” Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Daron Wyatt said.

The explosion sounded “too loud to be a gunshot,” according to Anaheim resident Katie Cram.

Others in the area said it shook their homes, and local residents were briefly evacuated while officials canvased the area, Wyatt said. They were later allowed to return home.

The explosion’s force caused an end cap to fly about 50 feet and cut through a wooden fence, police said.

The damage occurred to the walls of a shuttered business, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Anaheim police and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were investigating the bomb and trying to determine who made it.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of past burglaries of two Anaheim pharmacies that are among those targeted by series of Orange County thefts of a prescription cough syrup, police announced Tuesday.

Anaheim police on April 12, 2016, provided images of prescription cough syrup allegedly found at Joey Baldovinos' Alhambra apartment.

Anaheim police on April 12, 2016, provided images of prescription cough syrup allegedly found at Joey Baldovinos' Alhambra apartment.

More than a half-dozen pharmacies have been broken into in Orange County this month — in Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Tustin, Villa Park and Seal Beach, in addition to Anaheim. Dozens of locations have been hit since the beginning of the year, Anaheim police said last week.

The thieves are targeting promethazine with codeine cough syrup, which is used to create a drug-infused concoction known as "syzzurp," among other names.

Joey Baldovinos, 20, of Alhambra was taken into custody April 8 on suspicion of burglarizing a pharmacy at 1012 N. Euclid St. on Jan. 7. The same pharmacy was again robbed April 6, but it’s not clear if Baldovinos was involved in that more recent crime, according to an Anaheim Police Department news release.

Joey Baldovinos is shown in a booking photo released by Anaheim police on April 12, 2016.

Joey Baldovinos is shown in a booking photo released by Anaheim police on April 12, 2016.

During a probation search of Baldovinos’ apartment, detectives found several empty bottles of prescription cough syrup, the release stated. Those bottles were not taken during Euclid Street burglary, so investigators are trying to determine if Baldovinos is linked to other recently crimes.

Baldovinos was booked on suspicion of commercial burglary but posted $25,000 bail and was released, police said. He is on probation for a previous conviction for commercial burglary from a pharmacy in Los Angeles County, according to the news release.

There’s no known connection between Baldovinos and the other man arrested, Darnell Clarke, 30, of Long Beach.

Clarke was arrested Monday on suspicion of an Oct. 29, 2015, burglary of the Medicine Shoppe at 2795 W. Lincoln Ave. He was taken into custody at the West Justice Center in Westminster, where he was appearing for a hearing related to an August 2015 pharmacy burglary in Fountain Valley.

Darnell Clarke is shown in a booking photo released by Anaheim police on April 12, 2016.

The Fountain Valley crime occurred Aug. 23 at Tao Wellness at 16931 Bushard St., Fountain Valley police Sgt. Tony Luce told the Orange County Register.

As with Baldovinos, Anaheim detectives are working to determine if he committed any of the other burglaries.

Clarke is a documented criminal street gang member in Los Angeles County, according to Anaheim police. His bail was increased to $500,000.

Anyone with information on the crimes was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.

A Donald Trump supporter said he and a little girl were among those pepper-sprayed by counter-protesters at a rally outside an Anaheim City Council meeting Tuesday, when the GOP contender was the subject of a controversial measure that would have condemned his “divisive rhetoric.”

At least five people were pepper-sprayed at the event, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

Three people were treated by paramedics on scene.

Raul Rodriguez Jr. of Apple Valley said he was attacked by young man who said he had been struck first.

“The kid that sprayed me walked into my bullhorn and he claims that I hit him with it, and he sprayed me in the face,” Rodriguez said. “We were here for a peaceful rally and he attacked me. He sprayed me with that spray. That's pitiful."

Wyatt said he didn't know who fired off the pepper-spray. Investigators were looking to identify suspects, he said.

The Orange County Register published photos it said showed the man firing off pepper-spray.

The violent confrontation at Anaheim City Hall occurred in the afternoon, before the City Council was set to vote on a measure that would condemn Trump.

Late Tuesday evening, the council rejected the measure by a vote of 3 to 2.

“Donald Trump has repeatedly attacked people of many races, religions and creeds,” the resolution stated, calling for a rejection of Trump’s statements as “contrary” to the state and U.S. constitutions and “not being reflective of the City of Anaheim’s guiding principles," the Los Angeles Times reported.

Late Tuesday evening, the council voted 3 to 2 not to pass the resolution.

We the People Rising is the name of the pro-Trump group that planned the Tuesday rally, according to the Times.

As the two sides yelled across a grassy area at each other, shouting rose to a fever pitch, video from the scene showed. One Trump supporter pulled out what appeared to be a Taser just before Anaheim police arrived.

It’s not clear what happened, but one of the little girls was crying hysterically, apparently alongside her older sister, and paramedics responded. The older girl was placed on a gurney and hoisted into an ambulance.

The two girls were with an older woman who wore a red ball cap with the Trump campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again." She was the girls' grandmother and was also struck by pepper-spray, the Register reported.

Rodriguez, clad in blue Trump baseball cap and red Trump T-shirt, had visibly red skin on his face. He said his attacker had pepper-sprayed one of the little girls as he backed away.

“I don’t feel good. My eyes are burning,” Rodriguez said.

He said he wanted to seek charges against the assailant, whom he described as Hispanic, 25 to 30 years old and heavy-set.

Many of the Trump critics appeared to be young Latinos. A few dozen protesters total were at the confrontation.

During the rally, Tony Tarantino, the father of film director Quentin Tarantino spoke through a megaphone to Trump supporters, garnering cries of support when he said “I am for America.”

“We’re supposed to be a nation of laws, and those laws should be the same for everybody,” Tarantino said. “They should stop labeling people as African-Americans, Mexican-Americans.”

Another woman repeatedly asked a Trump critic if he was in the country illegally.

“My maiden name is Gonzalez, believe it,” she cried to the counter-protesters. “But I’m an American citizen and we need borders.”

An African-American woman said her candidate, Trump, was "bringing this country together."

"I've met Donald Trump," she said. "He's not a racist. That's why I stand for Donald Trump. ... He represents all."

The chase began in the Compton area where the driver was wanted on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Sgt. Lio with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The driver led officers eastbound on the 91 Freeway into Orange County at a fairly slow rate of speed, aerial video of the chase showed.

The driver hit significant traffic as he moved into the Anaheim Hills area where all eastbound lanes were backed up due to an unrelated crash up ahead, the video showed.

The driver managed to get through the traffic jam and had an open freeway ahead of him.

As the driver approached the Green River exit, he ran over a spike strip that blew out his front tires, aerial video showed.

The car bounced off the center divider several times as the driver tried to regain control, the video showed.

He finally came to a stop on the shoulder of the freeway but refused to exit the vehicle.

SWAT units with the Anaheim Police Department arrived shortly and began trying to negotiate with the driver.

After about 30 minutes, SWAT officers broke out the back window of the car and used tear gas to flush out the driver.

As the driver exited the car, he was immediately grabbed by a police K-9 who latched onto his arm.

The man sustained a bite on his left arm, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Daron Wyatt.

He was taken into custody by L.A. County Sheriff's deputies.

The unidentified driver was being sought for allegedly assaulting another person with a gun on May 2 in the 9600 block of Miramonte Boulevard in South Los Angeles, according to LASD Lt. Dan Holguin.

The freeway was reopened around 10:30 p.m.

John Lopez was arrested after the hourslong incident on Thursday evening, according to Lt. Dan Holguin of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Lopez was allegedly behind the wheel of a black Mercedes-Benz when the slow-speed chase began in the Compton area.

Sheriff's Century Station deputies were patrolling when they saw the car, which matched the description of a vehicle involved in an earlier attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon incident, according to a sheriff's news release issued Friday afternoon.

The deputies tried to stop the Mercedes, but the driver did not yield and drove away, heading onto eastbound State Route 91 in Carson. The California Highway Patrol took over the chase in Bellflower, the release stated.

The chase continued on the freeway through Anaheim Hills, where the vehicle ran over a spike strip that blew out the car's front tires, video from Sky5 showed.

After, the Mercedes hit the center divider several times as the driver tried to regain control of the car, according to the aerial footage.

The driver finally came to a stop on the side of the 91, but refused to get out of the vehicle, prompting a SWAT team to respond.

The driver eventually exited the car after SWAT officers broke out the back window and used tear gas. He was immediately grabbed by a K-9, who latched on to the suspect before sheriff's deputies took him into custody.

Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Daron Wyatt later confirmed the man suffered a bite wound to his left arm.

The standoff lasted for about two hours, during which time the freeway was closed, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Traffic was backed up on the 91 for miles and snarled in the area for hours as a result of the incident. All lanes of the roadway were opened around 10:30 p.m.

The vehicle was thought to be involved in an attempted murder that occurred in the 9600 block of Miramonte Boulevard on May 2 in South Los Angeles, Holguin said Thursday.

Lopez's possible involvement in that crime was still under investigation.

After being "medically cleared," he was booked on suspicion of felony evasion of a police office, and was being held on $75,000 bail.

Hundreds of protesters remained on the streets after law enforcement gave an order to disperse just before 2 p.m.

The event at the Anaheim Convention Center began about 12:30 p.m, with Trump returning to Orange County for the first time since a campaign rally in Costa Mesa on April 28.

At one point, Trump joined thousands of supporters in chanting "build that wall," in reference to his plan to have Mexico build a wall along the U.S. border.

Several hundred people gathered outside the event, including one young man who had a Trump-shaped piñata.

Mounted officers moved in to break up an incipient confrontation about 1:30 p.m., aerial video from Sky5 showed. A Trump supporter had entered the fray with a bullhorn and was shouting at the protesters that their stance was why "we need to build the wall."

The man told the protesters to "go home," saying Orange County did not need them there. In response, anti-Trump protesters called his supporters "racist."

As the rally ended and Trump finished speaking just before 1:30 p.m., groups of apparent protesters scattered. A group gathered in the parking lot of Tiffy's Family Restaurant, focused on one man carrying a large American flag. Police were close by.

Just before 2 p.m., police ordered protesters to disperse, saying the gathering had been declared an "unlawful assembly." Dozens of mounted officers appeared to be trying to clear the streets.

Trump supporters appeared to gather at the edge of a parking structure, chanting at protesters on the street below. Hotels on convention way were locked down because of the large crowds, police said.

At least two people on Katella Avenue appeared to have been taken into custody, aerial video from Sky5 showed.

Seven adults and a juvenile were arrested, Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Daron Wyatt said. He did not know what charges they were being held on.

Those numbers were later updated to include nine adults and five juveniles, according to Detective Laura Lomeli.

Earlier in the afternoon, Wyatt had said three adult men were arrested: one on suspicion of selling T-shirts without a business license; and two on suspicion of urinating in public.

The eleven other protesters were arrested for failing to disperse or vandalism, Lomeli said.

Trump finished his 55-minute speech by telling supporters that the country and he were going to "win, win, win."

"You're going to say to me, Mr. President, 'We're winning too much, we can't take it.' And I'm going to say, 'I'm sorry, we're going to keep winning because we are going to make America great again," Trump said.

Trump headed to Hollywood later in the afternoon to tape an appearance for the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" show.

Last month, 17 people were arrested when violence erupted outside the Pacific Amphitheatre on the OC fairgrounds that day.

Video from Sky5 showed a protester jumping on top of a parked patrol car at the event.

One of the protesters was charged with felony vandalism and misdemeanor “inciting a riot,” as crowds of protesters flooded the streets.

On Tuesday, anti-Trump protesters took to the streets and threw rocks and bottles outside the presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s rally in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Anaheim Police Department was expected to be out in force Wednesday and called for peace ahead of the event.

Demonstrators were also warned that police will not tolerate violence or disobedience of the law.

“Everyone has the right to participate without fear of violence or disorder, and we are prepared to take swift and decisive enforcement action should it become necessary,” Police Chief Raul Quezada stated in a news release.

Sheriff's deputies in Lakewood Thursday were investigating the attempted robbery and assault of two men who were attacked while walking home after playing "Pokemon Go" on their cellphones.

The two men were walking near South Street and Clark Avenue around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday when a tan four-door vehicle pulled up alongside them, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

A black man in the passenger seat got out the car and walked toward the victims holding a handgun and demanded their property, the release stated.

One of the victims charged the would-be robber and began to struggle for the gun, the Sheriff's Department stated.

During the struggle, the victim was hit multiple times in the face with the handgun by the assailant.

The attacker ran back to the car, possibly a Chevrolet Impala, which then sped toward the victims in an alleged attempt to run them over, the release stated.

The victims managed to get out-of-the-way of the car without getting hit.

The attack came just two hours after another "Pokemon Go" player was stabbed by multiple attackers in Schweitzer Park in Anaheim, according to the OC Register.

Sgt. Luis Correa with the Anaheim Police Department described the attackers as being between 18 and 24 years old, the newspaper reported.

“We encourage people to have fun, but you should be aware of your surroundings and don’t lose track of what’s going on around you,” Correa told the Register.

The suspect in the Lakewood attack was described as a black man between 18 and 25 years old, 5 foot 10 inches tall with a thin build and short hair. There was no description available of the driver.

A 29-year-old Ontario woman has been charged with multiple felony counts for allegedly harassing, stalking and impersonating the pregnant wife of her ex-boyfriend, including placing ads on Craigslist soliciting “rape fantasies,” authorities said Monday.

A booking photo of Michelle Hadley was released by the Orange County District Attorney's Office on June 18, 2016.

A booking photo of Michelle Hadley was released by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office on June 18, 2016.

Michelle Suzanne Hadley of Ontario was charged with felony stalking, attempted forcible rape, violating a protective order and assault, according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Hadley and her former boyfriend dated between 2013 and 2015. After their break-up, the boyfriend, described only as a U.S. Marshals Service agent, married another woman, the DA’s office stated.

After the wedding, Hadley is accused of sending the new wife numerous emails, including threats against her life and the life of her unborn child, prosecutors said. She allegedly routed the emails through different computers and servers in order to avoid detection by law enforcement, according to the release.

Despite a restraining order, Hadley continued to harass the woman.

In June, prosecutors said Hadley began posing as the victim on Craigslist and posting that she wanted to engage in “rape fantasies” and sexual acts resembling rape.

According to the DA’s office, Hadley sent the Craigslist responders photos of the victim and details about the woman’s daily routine. Hadley also allegedly told responders to have forcible sexual intercourse with the victim, even if she screamed or resisted, the prosecution alleged.

Several of the responders actually showed up at the victim’s Orange County home with the intention of raping her but were not successful. One responder physically attacked the victim before she was able to call for help.

The victim notified the Anaheim Police Department and Hadley was arrested June 24.

While released on $100,000 bail, Hadley allegedly continued responding to the Craiglist posts, pretending to be the victim. She also sent the victim threatening emails, the DA’s office said.

“Hadley is accused of using increasingly violent language and threatening the victim’s life,” the release stated.

Hadley was re-arrested by Anaheim police on July 14. She is being held on $1 million bail and is due back in court for arraignment on Aug. 19.

If convicted, Hadley faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison.

federal jury decision that absolved Anaheim police in a shooting of an unarmed man was influenced by inflammatory, graphic and irrelevant evidence and must be overturned, a federal appeals court decided unanimously Wednesday.

The decision by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals revived a civil rights lawsuit by the family of Manuel Diaz, 25, who was shot and killed in 2012 after running away from two Anaheim police officers.  The shooting sparked days of  violence and street protests.

“Police shootings are often the most difficult — and divisive — cases that our legal system and society encounter,” Judge John B. Owens wrote for the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. “Wrapped in strong emotion and often opaque case law, they can perplex even our most experienced trial judges.”

The federal jury had returned a verdict in favor of police after six days of trial and only two hours of deliberation.
